PCARG Marine ReSeARCH

PCARG Marine Research

  • PCARG Marine Research is the underwater branch of the Pre-Columbian Archaeological Research Group.
  • With our combined half century of archaeological research experience our goal is to carry out non-profit submerged archaeological research using state of the art technology along with well-established survey methods that give us the best chance of detecting submerged cultural resources and keeping our clients in compliance with all of their cultural resource requirements.
  • PCARG Marine Research provides all preliminary research, fieldwork and data collection, analysis and interpretation as well as final report (deliverable) preparation and publication.

PCARG Marine Research

PCARG Marine Research has a Fleet of three vessels, a 25-foot, short cabin Parker for offshore survey and dive operations, a shallow draft 18-foot Parker Center Console for shallow inshore work and a 16-foot aluminum Sea Ark Jon boat for work in very shallow creeks and rivers.

  • For magnetic detection we have our own EG&G Geometrics 881 Cesium vapor marine magnetometer as well as a Minelab submersible metal detector.
  • For acoustic detection we have our own Klein 3900 Dual frequency Side Scanning sonar capable of creating near photographic quality images of the bottom.
  • We keep track of all the incoming data using a survey grade Trimble DGPS satellite positioning system.
  • We use HyPack software to integrate the positioning stream to the sensor data in real time.
  • The data is ultimately analyzed and contoured in a GIS such as Surfer, Sonar pro or ArcGIS in a report as a data deliverable.
